How the three differ

Liver is the one this site is about. It breaks apart easily in your fingers, and the pieces are medium sized with a moderate crunch. It is the bag we reach for as a high-value training reward.

Tripe comes from the cow's stomach, and you will know which bag it is as soon as you open it. Drying takes some of the edge off compared with fresh tripe. We list it for medium and large adult dogs.

Heart is lean muscle. It is firm, snaps into small pieces and smells less than liver. That gentler start is why we suggest it first for a dog new to organ treats.

Which one to open first

Start with heart if your dog is new to organ treats or tends to be fussy. Move to liver once heart goes down without a second look, and save tripe for last, ideally outside.

Liver and heart are listed for adult dogs and puppies. Tripe is listed for adults only, so leave that bag aside for a young dog.

Each bag is a different food, so count all three toward one daily treat allowance rather than giving a full portion of each. Our guide on how much liver a dog can eat explains the usual guideline.

Where it comes from

The beef liver and beef heart come from a farm in Pennsylvania, and the beef tripe comes from a farm in the United States. All three are freeze-dried in small batches in Malvern, Pennsylvania, then bagged and shipped by Sniff and Shift. The liver bag is the same one we sell on its own; read about it on the beef liver page, or compare every set on the shop page.

Beef Trio questions

What is tripe, exactly?

It is part of a cow's stomach. Ours goes into the freeze-dryer raw and comes out with nothing added. Of the three bags in this set, it is the one you will smell first.

Is the liver in the trio the same as the single bag?

Yes. It is our standard freeze-dried raw beef liver in a 3 ounce bag, with the same back label as the bag sold on its own.

How should I store the three bags?

Keep them sealed in a cool, dry place until you need them. Once a bag is open, close the zip after each use. The liver bag is best used within 30 days of opening.
